When something is stuck

Showoff runs entirely in the browser. Most problems therefore have to do with the browser rather than with your project.

What your browser needs#

• A current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
• Hardware acceleration switched on. The stage is drawn by the graphics card.
• For the video export, a browser that can encode video. Chrome, Edge and Safari 16.4 or later can.
• For the properties column, a window at least as wide as a laptop screen.

The stage stays empty or stutters#

Check in your browser settings that hardware acceleration is on, and reload the page. Large scenes with many devices need a reasonably recent graphics chip. If the stage looks empty although objects are listed, one of them may be isolated. A strip above the stage then offers “Alle zeigen” (show all).

A device looks like a block#

Then its model failed to load, and a stand-in with the same dimensions took its place. Reload the page. If it stays that way, write to us.

The display stays dark#

• Some videos cannot be played by the browser. The entry in the right-hand column then shows a warning. MP4 with H.264 or WebM work almost everywhere.
• Many browsers cannot read HEIC, TIFF or JPEG XL. Save the image as PNG or JPG.
• No browser plays MKV or AVI. Convert the recording to MP4 or WebM.

The upload fails#

Each file can be up to 25 MB. We shrink images ourselves beforehand, videos and sound you need to shorten or compress harder. In a still, the media library only accepts images, video and sound need a film.

No video export#

If the export dialog says your browser cannot encode video, use Chrome, Edge or Safari 16.4 or later. If a frame rate is missing for MP4, the format is too large for a reliably playable file. Use WebM or a smaller resolution then.

No sound in the preview#

Browsers only play sound after a gesture. One click into the page is enough. Also check whether the sound is muted in the “Bühne” tab.

The project will not open#

Very early projects are stored in an older format the current editor no longer opens. The content is untouched, it is just protected from being overwritten. Create the project again, or get in touch if you need it. If it says “Kein Zugriff auf dieses Projekt” (no access), it was deleted or your access was withdrawn.
