Background, light and shadow

You find the “Bühne” (stage) tab on the right, next to “Objekt”. Whatever is set there applies to the whole scene, not to a single device.

Background#

Under BühneHintergrund, the “Art” field offers three kinds.

A single color from the color field. The switch “Transparent exportieren” (export transparent) makes the background see-through. A PNG is then cut out, and as WebM this works in video too.

Light#

“Lichtstärke” (light intensity) sets how brightly the devices are lit, from 0 to 250 percent. The slider snaps at 100. The stage is a photo studio with light panels and neutral walls, and that is exactly what reflects in the case.

Behind “Fein” (fine) next to the heading there are three more sliders.

Slider What it does
An Hintergrund anpassen Between the studio and your background. Further right, the device reflects your color or photo instead of the studio.
Belichtung How brightly the whole image is exposed, from 40 to 220 percent.
Spiegelung im Display How strongly the surroundings reflect in the display glass. At 0 the screenshot stays undisturbed.

Note

In front of a photo, a device quickly looks pasted on, because it still reflects a studio that is nowhere in the picture. Pull “An Hintergrund anpassen” to the right.

Floor shadow#

“Schatten am Boden” (floor shadow) is a slider from 0 to 100 percent. It sets how strong the shadow under a device resting on the floor is. The softness is fixed, matched to a device lying on a table under a softbox.

  • On dark backgrounds, better dial the shadow back, or it eats the image.
  • A shadow needs a floor. If a device floats, B puts it down.
  • At 0 the shadow is gone, for example for a cut-out PNG.

The background matters least#

Sounds odd, but it is true. It is swapped in two clicks. Whether an image works is decided by the setup, meaning devices, angles and framing. How to find that is covered in Camera and framing.
