Camera auto-motion

Instead of a camera move in degrees, you describe what should be visible. Each area is a rectangle on a device’s display. The camera works out a viewpoint from it and travels from one to the next. This is for films only.

Drawing areas#

  1. Select a device and press A. Or right-click its track and choose “Ausschnitt zeichnen …” (draw area). The plus on the camera track offers “Bereiche zeichnen” too.
  2. Drag a rectangle on the display. That is your first area.
  3. Draw more, move existing ones or change them at the corners.
  4. Click “Fertig” (done).

Each area then sits as a clip of its own on the camera track. That is where you drag when it comes up and for how long.

How the camera moves#

  • The camera takes at most two seconds to move into an area and then holds still.
  • There may be a gap between two areas. The camera holds the last view there.
  • Before the first area it sits on the camera you set. That is why a new area lines up after the last entrance, so a device can fly in first.
  • After the last area it travels back to the camera you set. You drag this way back longer or shorter on the camera track. Drag the last area all the way to the end and the film ends on the close-up.
  • Areas never overlap. The camera cannot be in two places at once.

The whole move#

With an area selected, the right-hand column shows its timing, and below it, under “Die ganze Fahrt” (the whole move), settings that apply to all areas at once.

Setting What it does
Blick “3D” looks from an offset angle, with depth. “2D” looks straight at the display.
Neu würfeln Different viewpoints on the same areas. Keep pressing until it fits.
Gleich verteilen Gives every area the same share of the timeline again, starting after the last entrance.
Bereiche bearbeiten Back to the drawing surface.
Alle entfernen Deletes the auto-motion. The camera is yours again afterwards.

While it runs#

As long as auto-motion drives the camera, you cannot drag the camera. A strip on the stage says so and offers “Neu würfeln” (reshuffle), editing and removing. In camera mode you still set the starting view, the one the move starts from and returns to.

Note

Areas and screenshots belong together. If the images on the display change while the camera moves from area to area, you have a walkthrough. The click-through in Screens and media builds exactly that in one step.
