Sound and music

Sound belongs to the timeline, not to a device. It sits on a track of its own. A still has no sound, so neither the track nor its section exists there.

Adding sound#

  1. Click the plus on the camera track.
  2. Choose “Ton hinzufügen” (add sound) and pick a file.
  3. The sound goes into the media library and straight onto the audio track.

MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG and FLAC up to 25 MB are supported. Several sound clips in one film work too.

Adjusting#

Clicking the sound clip, in the timeline or in the list under “Ton”, shows its controls.

Control What it does
Lautstärke Volume from 0 to 400 percent. At 100 the file sounds as it is.
Ab Stelle The second in the track to start from. Jump straight into the chorus without moving the clip.
Von, Bis When the sound plays in the film.

Below that you see how long the track is and which part of it plays in the film.

Muting#

The eye next to the sound in the “Bühne” tab mutes it without removing it. The bin next to it takes it off the audio track. The file stays in the media library.

In the preview#

Browsers only play sound once you have clicked into the page or pressed a key. If the head of the timeline says the sound is muted while playing, a single click is all it takes.

In the export#

For the video export we mix all audible sound clips into one stereo track at 48 kHz. In MP4 it is stored as AAC, in WebM as Opus. If a track fails to load, the video still gets its picture, just without sound.
